Hi,

We got married in the US on a B1/B2 visa.. I returned back to the Philippines, then we filed I130.. Does my husband need to report our marriage in Philippines Consulate in the US? He's in the US, I was the only one who went back to Philippines (sad)..

Thanks..

Me and my wife just reported our marriage here in the US with the Philippine embassy outreach program. We both had to attend together, provide the forms, documents and passport pictures. The officer checks the IDs, verifies the documents and then we signed. My point is it seemed we both had to appear together in person.

We have been married 2 years and just now reported our marriage. I don't think there need to be a big rush to do this, just when it is convenient for you both. Seems to be a Philippine government statistical thing.....

I was just wondering if this is a requirement in the process of IR/CR1 visa.. If not, we should be good..

Thanks again!

It's not a requirement in the IR1/CR1 visa process. However, you will need to bring a CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) from the NSO during your CR1 interview to prove that you were not married at the time that you got married in the US.

We were married in the Philippines, and jumped through all the hoops there to meet the legal requirements for getting married THERE. It is my uninformed guess that you would have to still prove THERE that you were legally allowed to get married, even though you did that here in the USA. But that is just a guess, so ignore any of my guesses and verify it through the proper channels in the Philippines. But we DID report our son's birth through the "Foreign Service of the Philippines, Philippine Embassy, Washington, D.C." on the form "Report of Birth, Child Born Abroad of Philippine Parent or Parents".

Nice! I haven't report my marriage yet because I always forgot documents I needed whenever we went to Chicago until I got busy and we moved here in Saint Louis, MO. Anyway, I heard they conducted outreach program here in Missouri but usually in Kansas City.

I probably report it as soon as I get a chance to go to Chicago again. I'm just wondering, aside from statistics, why Philippines need to track record of marriage here in United States if we could get divorce here anyway. I wonder what's the benefit to Filipinos.

The marriages of CR-1ers are already registered in the Philippines because they got married in 'Pinas.

K-1ers are not required to report their marriage to the Embassy of the Philippines in the U.S. unless the K-1 beneficiary wants to renew their Philippines passport.

Not all CR-1ers are married in the Philippines, could get married in any country the two can travel to and the benificiary returns to the Philippines for processing.

Very true. Thank you for pointing it out.

I hadn't thought about it probably because I was thinking about the vast majority of CR-1ers I see here on VJ who were married in 'Pinas.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever noticed a Fil/Am couple here on VJ who were married in a third country. Do you know of anyone?
