I had a hunch this was going on, but I didn't realize

that the extent of the fraud was much wider than I'd imagined.

Sure, the lottery commission goes to individual kiosks and

does stings with authentic winning tickets made by the lottery commission

for that purpose. There are so many bad clerks that this is mostly a fruitless

crusade.

Two things that could fix this:

1) Have a verification tool that is visible only to the customer checking it, not the clerk.

2) Disqualify lottery clerks and people related to or associated to them from playing or redeeming tickets.

I've never played the lottery ever, because I had a feeling that it was scam-prone.

My late father played it religiously so I'm guessing he had quite a few winners

but was told that they were losers. He was a very simple trusting guy and

I miss him every minute of every day.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, I can tell it still hurts. rose.gifrose.gifrose.gif

I've heard people brag about defrauding he rightful winners of $40,000 but they apparently got away with it or it was bull. Don't know maybe lottery clerks should be employees of the lottery commission that way they can never profit from this we need to send an errand boy to collect a debt

Many thanks. smile.gif

After having seen the investigative reporting about lottery fraud

you would think that people would start to do their own DD (due

diligence) and just look up the numbers online.

My dad didn't have the benefit of the internet but the lottery took

up a lot of his retirement time (he didn't bet big but he bet

small amounts often). I had a strong feeling that it would be

futile but he was so absorbed in trying to figure out the winners

that I didn't have the heart to try and change his thinking at the time.

I felt that the lottery did steal some of the time that we could have spent together.

Sometimes on my way home from work I take a bus that passes a

local casino. The people who get off remind me of my dad but

are in fact much worse because he could afford to play the small

amounts that he lost. These people seem like they are carrying

their last few dollars to dump them into a bottomless pit of computerized

ersatz slot machines that run by themselves when the buttons are

pushed and take their money regardless of any action they may do.

I am very sorry and I, too, have wondered about the lottery mania. The casino crazies are a whole different matter. Slot jockeys seem to live in the thrill of the bet and all the bells and whistles of their coin-operated reality aren't going to solve the impetus for escape in the first place. Ennui as well as various other problems.
