Our journey is almost over. Done with the naturalization process. Need to take the oath before I get my citizenship. My application for naturalization was approved 07/07/2011 in San Francisco CA. Thanks Visa Journey. You made our journey easier. No sweat. Pinay for pizza is still alive. The guy who did my interview and testing was the same guy who did the interview for my AOS three years ago. Pinoy po siya 100%.

Hokey Smoke!

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

Congrats!! So when is the oath ceremony? I assume they wait until they get a certain number of people that need the oath before doing it.

The oath ceremony will be July 26th in Oakland at the historic Paramount Theater. Up to about 1300 immigrants can be sworn in at the same time. The IO took us down one floor, and made sure we were squeezed in for that ceremony, and didn't have to wait for the letter to arrive in the mail for the next one.

Thanks guys. With the number of applicants that day, I don't think USCIS will wait until they reach a certain number of approval.

Congratz!!! :star:

We are a bit behind you guys. We went in for the ROC biometrics on the same day. :D

Yeah, it's nice to almost be done with this stuff. It will be fantastic not to have to think about it anymore. I like simplifying my life, not complicating it. Now that it's over, I don't know if I would do it again, seeing all the problems other couples have gone through. It's good to be lucky.

I know the feeling...we like to simplify life too. We can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel...and it's really nice to be almost done. Each step gets easier as we gain more experience in the paperwork jungle. We didn't worry about filing for ROC as much as we stressed over earlier filings.

Chinook is going to file for U.S. citizenship as soon as she can, but doesn't seem interested in maintaining her Filipino citizenship.

We'd both do it all over again in a heartbeat! :luv:

Marie is the same way, and can't wait to be a citizen. With the new rules, you don't give up much by losing your Filipino citizenship, and you gain so much more by becoming a USC, even if you go back to the Philippines. After this, it's time to get serious about Marie learning to drive. I have a school lined up for her. Perhaps now we can focus on turning her into a road warrior.

Ok, it's a ways off for us, considering she isn't even in the US yet, but I gotta ask... what does the naturalization process consist of, and cost? I understand she has to be here 3 years to get the 10-yr green card, but I have heard that naturalization is a 4-yr or a 5-yr time of living in the US. What happens then?

Thanks, and congrats on nearing the end of your journey!!

Everything is based on when she first becomes a Permanent Resident which is the date the Adjustment of Status is approved, generally around five or six months after filing. Two years after that, she can get a ten year green card, and three years of being a permanent resident and married to the same guy, she can become a US Citizen.

If she divorces you and no fraud is suspected, she gets her 10 year card right away, but has to wait five years to become a citizen, or marry another Kano for three years.

Current Fees: (Includes $85 Biometrics Fee)

AOS: $1,070

ROC: $590

USC: $680

Thanks, SOG. As for the USC part, is there a test they have to take, or is it just "pay your fee, and you're like me"?

There is a civics test and a test for reading and writing a simple English sentence. Most native citizens would probably fail the civics test. You have to get 6 out of 10 questions correct. But, she has three plus years to study.

You will find their score is inversely proportional to their conviction that the USA is the Master Race.
