hi.

Is it a good idea for the foreign fiance to get a health insuance from the country they come from, or what will happen if the person gets sick and need to go to the hospital if they don't have one?

July 7 i will arrive in Atlanta -> Chattanooga. I'm so excited !

They should get US health insurance. Once they move to the US they will most likely be ineligble for any insurance in thier home country.

There are a few threads on here about it. If you search for immigrant health insurance on here or on google you should get some info.

As to your question as to what happens if they get sick and don't have insurance--you get treated but pay a lot of money. Depending on the issue it could cost tens of thousands of dollars. Medical bills are one of the top reasons for bankrupcy in the US.

okay, thanks. then it's a good idea not to be sick :)

A good idea but not always possible. I have run up about 100K in medical charges over the last year. If you had told me 1.5 years ago that would happen, I would have said that you were nuts. Anything can happen at any time. I have decent insurance but I am still out about 7K from everything (2x 3K out-of-network deductible for 2010+2011 and + 1K 2011 in-network deductible). And whatever insurance you get, make sure you fully understand it.
