I have been told two different things about where to find the appointment letter or invitation letter (btw are those the same things?). Someone on VJ told me it comes with the Packet 3 and that I would need to scan a copy and email it to my fiancé since we wouldnt want to wait for the super slow Mexican mail.

Then today I called up the Juarez Consulate and got connected with a Juan Gonzales via 703-439-2310. He said that what is meant by that letter is the confirmation letter at the end of the DS-260 that well print out.

Today in the mail I received an envelope with an nonfolded letter from the American Consulate General. The top lists the addresses of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. It begins: Your fiance(e) visa case is now ready for processing. Please go to http://mexico.usvisa-info.com and follow the instructions to log in and schedule both an Applicant Service Center (ASC) appointment and a Consular interview. It continues with further similar instructions concerning websites, etc. At the very end of the letter it is labeled: Fiance(e) K1 Instructions. Is this the famous Packet 3? I thought there would more to it than that.

Are we supposed to wait for something else now before we schedule the appointment? Mr. Gonzales was convinced that scanning and emailing my fiance the letter I got in today is optional, and that we simply need to get the confirmation number from filling out the DS-260.

Whats the truth here?

Your fiance will need the letter you just received (this is "Packet 3") AND also the DS-260 confirmation page (this is a paper you print once finished with the DS-260 form...it has 2 bar codes at the bottom and it says "This is not a visa").

I'm under the impression that you need the "packet 3" letter to get in the Consulate.

Better be safe and scan the "Packet 3" letter and sent it. Better to have too many papers than missing one. I'm going to give my fiance in Mexico everything I received in the US by mail (NOA 1, NOA 2, NVC letter, & "Packet 3").

yes, that is packet 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats was pretty fast!!!! congrats! U can now schedule ur appointment!!!

You need to fill out the forms, and as he said print out the confirmation number when ur done with DS 260.

Scanning the letter is NOT optional if he has not gotten his yet....ur fiance NEEDS it to be able to enter the medical and the appointment.

BTW. packet 3, appointment letter or invitation letter ARE the same thing :)

Hey guys,

I just looked on the VJ timeline and it says that Packet 4 is the Appointment Letter. What's up with that?

There is no 'packet 4' from CDJ. There is not really a 'packet 3' either. As you discovered, it is just the one page letter directing you to the forms online and telling you about making your appointments. You will need this letter in CDJ.

Got all the right forms filled out, now I can't quite figure out how to schedule the appointment. Can we do it online? Or shall we have to wait for tomorrow?

Thanks! I actually figured this out shortly after I posted the question, but then it's getting too late for us over here so we'll end up probably scheduling the appointment tomorrow instead. I'm a little nervous to schedule it because then it really is critical we don't mess up on the planning and what he has to bring with him etc.
