Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, really great stuff, thank you everyone for posting helpful content. I have some random questions about the process that I wanted to run by everyone to get your take.

1) Were you present at your beneficiary's interview in HCMC? If so, did they end up interviewing you? Do you think it's a good idea to be there?

2) Have you heard of fact checking calls? As in, during your beneficiary's interview, they call you up to verify pieces of information. My fiance told me that people she knows who have recently been interviewed experienced issues where the consulate has called their significant other in the US to verify facts—during the actual interview. Have you heard of this?

3) How did you set up finances when your significant other arrived to the US? Did you just open a joint bank account?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about calling the petitioner because in Dominican Republic the petitioner has to be present at the interview but I do know cases where they have called the employer of the petitioner to verify and people on the sworn affidavits.

Not only that, I bought mine a brand new Lexus and a $300K mansion, ready on the first day she stepped her feet in the US

Just remember, life over there in VN is NOT real! Your money will be worth a LOT less once you get back over here. Back to reality, cowboy!

Only recently allowable for the Petitioner to be present and some have been asked questions since the new policy has been implemented. IMO its a great idea to be there as it shows your commitment to the process.

NVC called asking for my ex, The consulate only makes calls if the case is in AP.. I have yet to hear of HCMC taking investigative actions prior to AP. The consulate called my ex, me, my spouse, her mother, her employer and they also made a visit to her home but that was all done when the case was in AP.

3) How did you set up finances when your significant other arrived to the US? Did you just open a joint bank account? Once she gets a SS# you can open an account.. we opened one for her and a joint one for us... it helps us to manage money that way...

Thanks in advance!

Ok...

1) Were you present at your beneficiary's interview in HCMC? If so, did they end up interviewing you? Do you think it's a good idea to be there?

I was waiting across the street by the yellow "wailing wall". When my wife interviewed they didn't allow petitioners inside the consulate.

Yes, I've heard of it. There have been several VJ members who were subjected to this sort of investigation while they were in AP. Many were ultimately approved.

3) How did you set up finances when your significant other arrived to the US? Did you just open a joint bank account?

I still manage the household finances, just as I did before my wife arrived. My wife and I have a joint account that I transfer money into for her personal use. She also has a part-time job. Money from that job is hers to do with what she likes. She doesn't earn nearly enough to make a significant contribution to the household expenses, so I don't currently ask her to contribute anything. I do spend time going over the budget with her every couple of weeks so that she knows where the money is going.
