Interview but a question

6 posts in this topic

I got approved from London for my k1 visa.

However, the consular official said I no longer needed my previous visa, and got a big stamp saying 'cancelled without prejudice' and put it on my visa. He said he cancelled my old visa. Will that present problems in the future? And does that mean from now on I tick yes to previous visa cancelled?

Nobody really asks whether you've got a visa that's canceled. The officials are interested in the DENIED visas, and that's a whole 'nother story. Don't sweat it :)

He's just marked it cancelled and indicated that there was no reason, except that it's no longer needed. Not a problem. They'll put your new K1 visa in there.

I can't really think of a time in the future you will be asked that question.

Have you ever been denied or had a visa revoked. IS revoked the same as cancelled?

No, it's not the same thing. "Revoked" or "denied" suggests that an authority did not want you to have a visa for a specific reason. Visas are cancelled without prejudice (meaning it won't affect you or be held against you) when they are no longer necessary (i.e. when you get another visa or status that makes the old visa no longer useful). For example, I went to Taiwan on a student visa. When I applied for and received my residency there, they stamped "Cancelled without prejudice" on my student visa. Don't worry! It's not something you have to worry about for any future applications.
