It also states this on the travel.gov site:

IMPORTANT NOTICE - ABOUT POLICE CERTIFICATES: Some countries require a specific Police Certificate Request form to properly request and obtain Police Certificate(s).The Reciprocity by Country page indicates those countries.

Police certificates from certain countries are unavailable.

More specific information is available from NVC, the nearest United States immigrant visa processing post, or online at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3272.html.

On the reciprocity page for Mexico it lists:

Police Records

Unavailable.

"POLICE CERTIFICATES

Police certificates are required from every visa applicant aged 16 years or over for each locality of the country of the applicant’s nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year. Generally, application for such certificates should be made directly to police authorities in the district in which you resided. If you have any questions about where or how to apply for police certificates in other countries, you may communicate directly with the U.S. consular office processing your visa applications.

Do not attempt to obtain police certificates covering residence in any of the following countries, as they are not available:

AFGANISTAN* GUATEMALA* MALAYSIA* SRI LANKA

ANGOLA* HAITI* MEXICO SUDAN

AZERBAIJAN* HONDURAS* MOLDOVA SYRIA*

You can also search for Mexico Police Certificate here on VJ, and there will be previous posts about it stating Mexico is listed as a country where they are unavailable.

If you can get one, it won't hurt at all to have it. I just do not believe it is required.

Does anyone know if the people going through Juarez now are being specifically asked for a police certificate, even if they have no criminal record?

I found this page too, and also here, where it talks about gathering documents, talks about country reciprocity. I have directly written to the consulate in Juarez, hopefully they will respond

Well, on Juarez consulate link titled K Visa/fianceé packet, there's a checklist. Point 5 states : "Persons convicted of a crime must obtain a certified copy of each court record and any prison record, regardless of the fact that they may have benefited subsequently from an amnesty, pardon or other act of clemency".

I agree there is a lot of conflicting information. I'm curious to see what happens when you go without them, I hope everything is fine. I just wonder if a lot of us went to a lot of trouble for no reason! Time to set the record straight. Absolute worst case scenario you have to get them and come back. Best of luck!

LOL! This is my worry with it...you travel all the way to Juarez (dodging bullets...I add this for effect, smirk) then they say after 10 days of waiting in a hotel...oops...looks like you need police certificates?

@#*& (insert spanish swear word of your choice)

bummer...lastima!

fly back at high cost to get certificates..begin the process over.

So please if someone has gone through Juarez with NO police certificates on K1 fiancee visa (I think you do need for spouse visa) PLEASE tell us!

Happy mothers Day everyone!

C_Maria...I am soooo happy you & Robe are together with Baby this first Mother's Day! Congrat's!!!

Especially because I have lived in 4 different cities, including Tijuana!! That is why I am really hoping I don't need it and I want to believe that page where it states they are unavailable is true... Let's see what the consulate says...

But Jay-Kay said this:

I know some things have changed since my husband went through Juarez back in Sept, but he did not need any police certificates.

So apparently not. Now I would like to know if the interviewer asked for them when Robe was there? I will search for other people from Mexico who have been through it and ask them :)

Yep, he did not need police records, since he had never been convicted of a crime. The way 'packet 3' is worded now, is the same as it was worded when my husband went there back in Sept. Well, minus the part they added to the first page about the changes and extra form to fill out. The rest of it, about what to bring, reads exactly the same.

Let us know what the consulate replies to you. I am curious. I think plenty of people went through there without police certificates, and some bring them. It is a mixed message they should fix and make clear. They won't though, so the people at VJ going through there have to clear it up for them. At least maybe others going through there in the future might get an answer from all this?

I wish I could give you all a better answer but the reason it's unclear to me still is because they don't ask you specifically for anything!!!When Robe got to the window they asked him for everything.

I thought too that they would have a checklist and ask for stuff one by one but thats not the case. So he gave them the whole heaping pile with all the duplicates of forms, police certificates, both of our original birth certificates, photos, evidence. We also figured they would give stuff back if they didn't need it but that didn't happen either! They thumbed through and pulled out the forms that needed signatures and had Robe sign them and then had him sit back down.

When we got the envelope with the visa from DHL it also returned our photos and a disk that he had accidentally given them (that was our hard copy of everything). When we were at the border turning in the sealed package I asked if they would be giving anything back- like our birth certificates- and they said they might mail them back but might not. I was hoping that at that point they would give us back everything that they didn't need... I wonder how well they really go through those papers.

So they never said yes and they never said no to anything they received from us....

But as we found out, if you were to be missing anything important "you will be notified within three weeks via DHL".

I wish I had better information for you guys!!!
