Hi to all I just wanted to share some info that might be helpful to others, I arrived in phil april 25 b4 i left i left the return date OPEN, on april 26 i went to immigration office in CEBU and requested a visa to stay for 3 months all i did was fill out the form right there at the office provided my passport did not show bank statements nor did i show where i was staying, going back to the office today to pick my passport back up I had always thought to do this i would have to show bank statements flight and were i am staying but nope all i did was fill out the form and that was it....

If i had known b4 it was relly that easy to stay in philippines i would have did this a long time ago, i just decided since i am getting social security i would try and see if 870$ a month would be enough to live here in philippines, by july if i see 870$ a month is good ill just stay for good and keep extending visa every 2-3 months

You've gone from the US to the Philippines? Yes in general it is not very difficult for US citizens to have extended stays in a lot of countries and even to retire to those countries with just a travel visa to start. At some point if things are working out for you, you may want to switch over to a resident visa which will be longer term and less hassle. Good luck to you there

$870 a month is a lot to live on in the philippines!!!! If you are married to a filipina go ahead and apply for a 13a spousal visa you will be approved easily, then you just renew it once a year and you dont have to keep paying the fees (except yearly)

Yeah it is easy...I have applied for extended stay the past 2 times I was there. I only stayed for about a month, but it was just as easy as filling out the form, pay the fee, and wait about an hour to get your passport back with the stamp in it.

yes after 3 months if all is good with me and my filipina ill marry her, and apply for resident visa, it just really shocked me how easy it is to live here in phil

Easy for most foreigners, a challenge for most locals. Lol! Us on the other hand have to apply for a visa, had to go through scrutiny and a long, expensive process. Most Filipinos (a family of 4) survive on $200/month, so for $800/month you will be living like a king. :)

TIMELINE:

Feb 01, 2011 - Sent I-129F to Texas Lockbox

as far as your budget is concerned...if you just plan to live a simple but comfortable life, your budget is more than enough. of course, you'll have to consider the exchange rate as well so your budget may fluctuate.
