LOL you bet I'm part Turkish now through and through... AmeriTurk. My Kadir says, "my heart your heart, your heart my heart. Same - same" Therefore, I have the heart of a Turk!

Yes my parents are from PI when it was a US Territory (USC's). I was born here in the States! AmFlip and now AmFlipTurk I guess... lol

One thing my Turkish Anne says is that she believes I have actually become one because I have learned to make certain foods before them! Strangely, when I went there I could not get over how much they EAT! All the time, that's all they do! EAT EAT EAT and have a sit down and drink cay and eat MORE again!! K's parents put 10 lahmacun in front of me my first night with them and I thought that was for everyone to share. When I pushed it over to his mom next to me? His Baba pulled it right back over and said it was only for ME! LOL Then, all his siblings [sisters] are so thin, I do not know how they eat like a man! Where in the world do they put that? lol

Now back in the US after leaving Turkey, I can't eat the processed foods anymore so I learned the how to cook like them. Since I primarily cook for myself...

Guess who eats like a true TURK now? lol

Mari

PS: our file is at the us embassy now!

Wow--awesome. I would love to learn how to cook Turkish food. I stay in the kitchen with my Turkish mom all the time. Unfortunately, I'm only there waiting for the finished product. I should pay more attention so I can replicate it at home. And you are absolutely right, the food here is so much healthier--you take that plus all of the rigorous walking that you do here in Istanbul, and you got a great diet plan!
