I'm new to this site and really have no idea what I'm doing. I'm engaged to a Canadian girl, and I plan to have her move down here when I return from deployment next December. In the mean time I want to start preparing the paperwork and processes involved in her immigration, but I really have no idea where to start. I've searched the Internet for a few hours now, trying to find a sort of walk-through, with no luck at all.

I'm active duty military, and I was wondering if my status affect the immigration process at all. Does it make things easier or more difficult?

Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. I really have no idea what I'm doing... <___<;;

You can get an expedite as active duty military if you are deploying to an active combat zone soon after sending the petition for K-1.

My husband and I did this when we filed our K-1 shortly after he was slated to deploy and we requested expedite.

Other then that it doesn't make a difference as to easier or harder.

Print out this guide and cross things off as you collect them and do them for the K-1 packet

Here is the K-1 flow chart to give you an idea of all the steps and aprox times for the steps

Hey,

My husband is also in the military. :) You go through the same process as everyone else, but you don't have to be 125% above the poverty line (just 100%) and there are military hotlines you can call to help you out. You can request an expedite if there is a pending deployment, but I'm not sure about your situation because you are already deployed. So far we have been lucky with the whole process and I think being in the military does help a little. :)

Goodluck!
