I-797C (NOA) and California DMV

Hi everyone. Just curious if anyone has been successful in using the I-797C Notice of Action to extend their California ID/Driver's License?

We had problems with them the first time we tried to get an ID made. Even though we provided them with a document from the USCIS with the same number as the one listed as proof of residence on the DMV site, they refused to accept it saying they wanted that document, but it a different format than what USCIS provided to us.

My wife's ID card is set to expire due to her 2 year green card expiring, and they want us to mail in proof her legal residence has been extended. And from my understanding the NOA is the only document that will be mailed to us until the I751 has been approved. Before mailing in the documents, I just wanted to know if anyone else has had any experience with doing this.

sorry i'm not able to help, i wonder if that is new? my now husband applied the day he got his social security card and was good for 6 years automatically. the noa1 should suffice since it says on the document that the status is extended for a year while the case is adjudicated although i would think that based on your previous experience you will only get a one year extension.

I don't live in California but I used the NOA1 to obtain my motorcycle DL just 3 weeks ago, the first time I showed up the woman send me back and specifically asked for the I-797C, then I came back and the girl that was attending didn't even know what a NOA looked like, she went to ask her supervisor about it and guess what: her supervisor was the woman that had asked me to bring the I-797C back the first time.

So if they don't accept it, ask for a supervisor.
