We are leaving the week of the 18th to file DCF in Calgary. I'm looking forward and trying to get piles of info together.

Proving we have a real marriage. We have been married 3 1/2 years and i'm a PR of Canada and the USC my hubby is the Canadia Citizen. How much proof will we need being married this long and will they accept our Canadian proof such as bank accounts, mortgage, car etc or do i need to get US proof. After we file the I-130 i intend to go home to Chicago and get a job and what not. We will have e-mails and stuff like that once i'm there. Just wondering how hard they look at a couple who has been married for a little while. To me its like duh! I left my country for him what more do you want as proof! I'm in Canada only for my husband...not like I don't like Canada but if anything ever happened to my hubby I would have been on my way home to the US for sure.

Your marriage certificate and other "normal every day married stuff" should suffice as proof of marriage. the fact that you've been married a few years already will make it easier than for couples who run off to get married and head straight to the consulate.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

I think the hardest part of our decison has been so far is that my husband has to quit his job. He is a long haul truck driver that crosses the US/Canadian border at least twice a week. I called immigration in Pembina, ND to see if this would be a problem and they told me yes if he crossed they would cancel our I-130 application and he could get banned.

that is a possibility yes. As there is an immigrant petition with his name on it submitted, any entry from now til he gets his visa will be considered immigrant intent.

However, if he has some sort of visa now that allows him to go back and forth for business, then he should be good to go. I would expect that a company that has trucks going back and forth all the time would have these sort of things for their drivers to speed up crossings. But who knows!?

Unfortunately no there is no specific border crossing document for truck drivers that would let him in over an immigrant visa and that is why he is having to quit. It is just better for us not to take the risk of a crabby customs officer screwing up the whole thing for us and you know that would happen when your montreal interview is like 2 days away because that is murphy's law :) You give up a lot for immigration!

there is the possiblilty that he would be denied entry but seeing that he has proof that he will be coming back I don't think it should be to big of a problem.... a lot of people with pending applications go back and forth all the time with no problems

Good luck at the interview, Tracy,

am sure everything will go well and you will have no problems. All of your Canadian 'proof' is fine - what else can you have:-)? It is too bad that your husband needs to quit work, but you are being wise not running the risk - especially when you are so close. I understand DCFs are pretty quick.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks for the help and well wishes. I will tell you the truth...i'm scared to death about starting this process! I'm happy that i will get to see my family again but i hate being away if even for a short time from my hubby but i really want to go get a job and a place to live and what not before the interview. Thankfully my Dad is going to be a co-sponser so that will help. I'm sure i will be posting more on here as our application progresses. Thankfully i found you all :)
