Today is the 3rd time I went to Singapore (SGP) US Consulate this month.

1st of march - for my interview as per scheduled (221g - SGP Police Certificate)

9th of march - to clarify contradicting information (re. the Pol Cert vs US Consulate)

30th of march - submitted my password (Collection time: 8th of April)

Man...its been a long time since 22nd of June 2010. I didnt even take my time slowly.

2 RFES - silly mistake on I864 and guesss what....SINGAPORE POLICE CERTIFICATE.

this SGP Pol Cert is really thorns in our flesh. Had a bad feeling about it in Oct 2010 when Sgp police HQ said they dont give anymore cert to non-Singaporean. SEnt info to NVC....months later, REF -.-

Acquired another letter/notice from Police HQ. This time in Dec approved.

6th january 2011 (my bday) - inteview was scheduled for 1st of march.

1st of March - inteview went smooth, swore, not additional docs asked, no funky questions BUT they said now they have come to an agreement with SGP Police Dept. to allow non-Singaporean to obatin certificate of non-criminal (CNOC) - was given 221g which says Statutory Declaration not sufficient. CNOC is needed. THIS IS NEW. THIS MUST BE between Dec 2010 to Mar 2011 (the fact that NVC was alrite with me not submitting the CNOC).

So fine okay, i went to Police HQ with application form ready. BUT NOOO, i cannot apply yet. I have to APPEAL to APPLY.....*&%*&%%&^$#$##3

this takes 1 week.

thats fine okay, so 1 week passed, i then APPLIED. now it takes 2 weeks to get approval !@#@#!@!#

finally today I went there again, and submitted my Passport and was notified to come back 8th of April to collect.

IT has been a long journey guys and im gonna write a thread on Singapore Police Certificate which Im sure might help someone in the future.

But Im done. Bought me ticket and ready to go. We got married 21st of April, my ticket is on 22nd of April

Can anyone confirm that i can ask at POE to change to IR-1? coz i asked the consulate here, they can but only when i come back to them after 21st of april.

So anyone who has ever done that, (APPLIED CR-1 and HAVE IT CHANGED to IR-1 at POE) pls let me know if its possible.

Thank you guys, good luck and always be patient and pro-active in every situation.

Cheers!

Yay! Congrats on your visa approval! :)

As for the CR-1 to IR-1 at POE issue, I've read that you just have to point it out to the POE officer and show them the date on your marriage cert as proof.

If for whatever reason they don't recognize it, it seems easy enough to get it changed after you're in the US. Schedule an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and bring evidence to show you've been married more than 2 years.

More info here:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/290526-from-cr1-to-ir1/

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/275963-cr1-visa-holder/

Also, since you've just been through the process here, I have a question about the Singapore consulate... are accordion type folders allowed into the embassy for the interview? Or only plastic bags? I ask because http://www.ustraveldocs.com/sg/ (which is linked from the US embassy in singapore website) says the following items are not allowed due to security reasons

  • Any large shoulder bags/purses. Only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted.
  • Any bags such as travel bags, back-packs, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders. Applicants can only carry in plastic bags containing application-related papers.

Is this information correct and up to date?

Thanks!

and yes, its fine. you just say that they might need all the documents inside that folder. your bag and your mobile phones will be stored by the security, and they will ask you to make sure that youve got all documents to bring in with you.

Oh, good to know! I was wondering about how to even organize anything in a plastic bag.
