Petitioning for Mother who is married

My husband (US Citizen through naturalization) is presently petitioning for his mother who is from (and lives) in Jamaica. However, the mother is remarried. She has a 9 year old son with him, so once she gets through, she'll petition for her son. However, she will not be petitioning for her husband (currently separated plan to divorce at some point when the funds become available).

I've recently heard because she is married the process for her to become a permanent resident will take much longer because she's married. Is there any truth to that?

Absolutely no truth to what you heard. It takes about the same for a US citizen to petition for a parent regardless whether the parent is married or not.
