Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of questions about our upcoming trip to The Philippines. I will be traveling with my wife who is still a Philippine citizen. There is a chance that we will be staying for more than 21 days. We are about to buy our airline tickets very soon. Our stay will be 21-23 days long. Since I am traveling with my wife, will I be allowed to stay longer than 21 days without applying for an extension? I believe this is allowed under the "balikbayan" program, is this correct? If so, where can we find out more about the balikbayan program and its benifits for my wife. She hasn't been back to The Philippines for about 3 1/2 years.

Thanks for any replies,

Kev n Jena

Yes, you are correct. Since you will be traveling with your wife (Filipino), you will be eligible for Balikbayan visa.

Philippine Consulate in Chicago states that "former Filipino citizens may stay up to one year without a visa, provided they present, at the Philippine point of entry, proof of former Filipino citizenship, such as old Philippine passport or Philippine birth certificate. Spouses and children of former Filipino citizens and of Filipinos who have been away from the Philippines for at least one (1) year may also stay up to one year without a visa, provided they enter the Philippines with the spouse or parent."

I hope this is what you're looking for. Have a safe trip and enjoy the Philippines! :D

Markieboy Gave you good information, I myself have availed of this privilege when entering the Philippines with my wife returning from Hong Kong. But remember to have your marriage certificate with you to prove you are married as per the information I copied and pasted below.

"In cases that their spouses and minor children travel together with them, they must present marriage certificates (for the spouses) and birth certificates (for the minor children) to establish their claimed legal ties with the accompanying family members."
