We recently received a request for evidence (RFE) asking for:

* Certified copies of 2008 federal tax return printouts obtained from the IRS. You may obtain copies by calling the IRS at 1-800.. and asking for printouts of the returns or a summary of the tax returns. Include also, all required schedules, statements and any attachments such as W-2 records.

And apparently it can take up to 60 days for the IRS to send these! The RFE notice date is Feb 25, 2011 and its due by April 13, 2011, and now its already March 12th.

What should we do?

I've heard "tax transcripts" only take two weeks, is that what they are referring to when they say "summary of the tax returns"?. Anyone been in this situation or have any advice?

Call 1-800-908-9946, follow the prompts, and you should receive requested tax transcripts within 1 week. I've done it twice, and both times I received my transcripts within 5 days.

They are refering to transcrpits. Get them free from IRS by requesting on line or by phone. They will fax or mail as you wish. My husbands took about 10 days by mail.

Should you miss the date given send them asap with a simple explanation requesting acceptance. Try to get them asap to ensure the case moves forward.
