Hello all,

I need your support and advice!!!

My husband and I are working in order to gather all the information needed to apply for IR-1 Visa. Right now we have a joint sponsor for form I-864, I am the petitioner for my husband visa, i am not working in USA nor in my current residence country, my husband is working right now and we have some savings in our USA bank account, I have never paid federal taxes or similar, due to that in the past 10 years i didn't live in USA, nor worked for a USA company abroad the USA.

However reading the I-864 guidelance says that i should pay taxes and indicate how much i paid for.

Please help me, bacause i don't know if right now i have to pay taxes for 2010, 2009 and 2008, even though in the last 3 years i had small jobs outside the US that didn't represent great figures.

Thank you all for your prompt reply

The US taxes on worldwide income. So if you earn an income (any company, any country) you are required to file a US tax return if your income meets the filing requirement. (See www.irs.gov for more info). You may not owe any tax, but that doesn't mean you aren't supposed to file.

The I-864 does ask you if you've filed for the 3 most recent years. If you were not required to file you must include a letter/affidavit explaining why you were not required to file.
