Dear VJ'ers:

I am about to send my N 400 and a friend at work told that I need to send the change of address. He was talking about some AR-11, does this kind of question comes up in the naturalization interview. Did anyone here change their address with the immigration before the naturalization interview. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Green card holders are required by law to send a change of address every time they move to the USCIS, within 10 days of moving.

Oh #######, I didn't know that. Now what, you think it can be a issue on my Naturalization interview. I've moved couple of times during 5 years, can I send it now before I send out my N 400.

Hmm I would send one if I was you, for the most recent time you moved ( not the past ones ) before you send in the N-400.

We have moved once so far and both petitioner(my husband) and myself(GC holder) have sent in the change of address forms using the USCIS website.

I'm pretty sure you can use the online one like we did. Painless and gets the info to them asap.

I moved to this apartment I am currently in like 6 months ago, will they penalized me for sending it late or anything like that? Do they ask you in the naturalization interview if the applicant has change the address or not since last move. If not, then do they deny the application.

Personally I don't think it's that serious. I did NOT do a change of address when I moved. This was during my Removal Of Condions. All I did was use my current address, which was after I moved. It was never an issue. I was never penalized. It did NOT come up at my citizenship interview. But that's just my experience...

No, you will not be penalized, but you cannot send off your N-400 in the 90-day time frame following your AR-11.

When you apply for your N400, just use your current address at your new apartment that you moved into 6 months ago. End of story!!! You dont have to do anything or divulge any thing... UNLESS they ask you, then you be honest about it...

Bob- can you please specify that where does it say that I can't send my N-400, if I have just filled out an AR11. It doesn't say in the AR-11 instructions either. Can you please specify more, thanks.

There are residency requirements that you've been in the same field office area for the last 90 days....are you talking about moves within the same city or across country and into a different state? That would make the difference.

I don't think you should ignore the responsibility of filing the AR11 - it's online and easy to complete. A suggestion was made above to sneak in your new address and they won't be the wiser unless they ask - bad idea to lie to USCIS, so please don't go that route (even though it happened to work out for them). There isn't really an effective date field on the AR 11 so you may need to add an explanation if you send it hardcopy

I submitted an AR11 1.5 year ago then 6 months ago i moved to a different apartment which is in the same community but different building. I've been in this state since almost 2 years now so that minus the 90 day requirement. I am trying to understand why Bob said that I can't send an AR 11.

Because if you'd moved out of the same area, you would have to have 90 days of residence in the new field office's area first before apply for N400

probably not but if someone pi$$es in the IO's proverbial cornflakes that day and they choose to make an issue out of it - why be caught?

The VJ rules are that we should recommend following procedure, as tiresome as that is.
