Hi Guys

just filling in the DS-157 form, and come up against a problem.

In section 12, where it asks for employer details, position etc. I am technically a freelance contractor, and don't have an employer as such. I'm self employed.

Anyone have any clue what to write in that section? I am very confused.

Yours,

David.

I am also a freelance contractor, and for the DS-157 I put my company name down as my employer and how long I had been contracting. Do you have a limited company? If so, then that's the way I did it.

No company here, just me. I may just say: 'see additional sheet' and explain. Seem reasonable?

DS-157 section 12. asks"Not Including your Current Employer, List your last Two Employers"

If you are currently self employed, like I am, then you are your current employer, so you do not put your details here. They want your last two employers.

Yes you are completely correct, and that is what I did. Sorry, I was getting confused with question number 32 on the DS-230 where it lists your employment for the last 10 years, which is where I put my company name.

The DS-157 is about security clearance. Certain occupations or frequent visits to certain countries will trigger additional security checks. So I think they will be interested in what you contract to do...like building explosives or mixing toxic chemicals vs being a bookkeeper. I think this one is more about your skills/occupation over the name of your company if self employed.

Ok. I'll be honest with them, and you guys; working for myself is my first paying job, so there are no past employers.

The contracting is basically audits for fast food chains! Exciting stuff - NOT.

The only country I've ever visited aside from the UK is the US, and no toxic chemicals or anything like that ;)

I'm self-employed as well (musician) and that was my 1st full-time employment out of college. I put down a couple of part-time jobs I had when I was studying in the 'not including your current employment' section, as I didn't want to leave it blank...

I'm worried that my several visits to Morocco over the years might raise a red flag...But that was to visit a family member who used to live there, and she's a nun!! Hoping they'll just take me word for it if they ask...

So, I have another question about the employment section.

Do I put in 'UNEMPLOYED' then the range of dates I was out of work for...? Or do I just leave it as putting the job down.

They only ask to list the employment, not the times I wasn't working...
