My Fiance doesnt have a lot of items but enough that she won't be able to bring it on the plane with her. She won"t be shipping any furniture. Just items like clothing, photo albums, books etc... What I'm interested in are the different shipping methods people have used and the pro/cons of what they learned from using that method. Please feel free to share your shipping experience

Not a topic about filing an I-129F to USCIS... Moving thread to "MOVING to the USA" Regional forum...

My wife shipped a lot of stuff here on her last visit home last year, simply shipped two large cardboard boxes over parcel-post.

I used balikbayan boxes when i went home from my 6 months stay in Il. LOL yes, old reliable balikbayan boxes, cheesy as they are, most Filipinos will agree they are practical and safe. 2 weeks after my departure, fiance sent xmas gifts and things he cant store through balikbayan box deliveries to PI. you can find this service in most Filipino groceries and stores in US. Lead time approx 2-4 wks, depending on the season.

Dec 2010,fiance used UPS for a small parcel which cost him thrice the price he paid for the boxes. Upon delivery, i still had to shell out Php2k for custom taxes on top of what he paid for. lead time 3-5 days

If the items will come from PI, we have several shipping companies-Johnny cargo is reliable. UPS or DHL will be expensive. i used UPS to mail him our 1.5 lbs I-129F application, which cost me Php 2700. Rates for documents and parcel/ goods are different.

Hope that helps. good luck!

My fiance went to college in the US and then worked here for a little while after, and he used these big barrels to ship.. they are 50 (maybe 100? Not sure, about 4.5 ft tall!) gallon barrels, cardboard, and are delivered in about 6-8 weeks I think. Cost will vary based on countries.. but there is no weight limit which is pretty cool.

2-11-11 | I-129F sent

2-16-11 | NOA1

6-06-11 | NOA2
