Hopefully it won't take too long now for our NOA2 to arrive so I have started looking at some of the post NOA2 requirements.

DS-230 Part I - We can complete now. To be mailed to U.S. Embassy in Tokyo after consulate receives the our petition from NVC.

DS-156 - To be filled online once consulate receives our petition from NVC. Need two copies.

DS-156(K) - We can complete now, but not sign until asked to do so at the interview.

DS-157 - Not needed as fiancee is not born in Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, or Syria. This form isn't something that I (USC) have to fill out right?

Japan Embassy K1 visa web site

Have everything ready in this checklist. And then Schedule a visa interview at the Tokyo consulate.

Anything else I've missed?

Don't forget obtaining police certificates.

Don't do the medical until just before the interview - you might want to use the same one for your AOS package.

Since they're valid for a year you might as well get those. It takes sometimes up to several weeks to obtain them.

We're in the same boat...so we're kinda looking around for this we can do in advance. :)

Some tips about Tokyo embassy. I just got my interview there a couple of days ago.

- Get the police certificate as soon as you get NOA2 in the mail (the Japanese police Dpt. requires that. Do not wait until the consulate send you packet 3 is just a waste of time.

- Get the medical as soon as you have your number case ready (the NVC letter, you don't need to show the letter just the case number). Keep in mind the medical has to be valid when the beneficiary enter the US.

- Get 3 pictures (5 x 5cm) showing your ears!

- About schedule the interview: According to the packet 4. It says it might take 3 to 5 weeks to schedule an interview. Well like everybody here I can't wait to see my fiance so I scheduled just one week in advance and lucky me there was an available slot.

Good luck.. and I suggest you to be prepare about the questions I noticed some consuls spent more time staring at the beneficiary and how they react to the questions rather than reading the information submitted.

Hello vaneskygh,

I have some questions!!:D

you said you scheduled an interview one week in advance, does it mean you didn't have to wait for your packet4? or is it like you requested an interview one week from when you received packet4?

and and and, one more... about the police certificate, I called Chiba police dept. and asked if I can possibly apply for a certificate now, even if I am without NOA2 or NVC letter. The lady said that I can bring something that shows the case is in the process, and copies of when we filed I-129F will do too.

Hi Nekochan

Packet 3 is a bunch of instructions pretty much the same listed on the embassy checklist and things you have to submit like DS230, copy of previous visa if any, I think it depends on the case I was asked to submit my Gaikokujin torokusho since I'm not japanese and copy of previous american visa. If you have everything ready and you already send the DS230 form you can schedule an appointment. Packet 4 is the confirmation of the interview (it's up to you when you want your interview) they recommend that there is usually appointment slots available 3 to 5 weeks after receiving your appointment request. Well I thought let's try my good luck and I got an appointment one week in advance.

About the police certificate I went to Chiba police dpt. too  and just in case make sure you go the correct police st. there are like 3 headquarters. You have to go to the one that is in Chiba Minato Station (10 min walk). I don't know if you can ask for the police certificate before NOA2. They were really focus on finding some part that says "fiance petition".

And I recommend you to go to Seibo Hospital.. no questions, pretty easy. The only question was have you ever been sick in the past? I was expecting a complete medical report but nothing at all!!!

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the reply vaneskygh :star:

Cool, I will try scheduling an interview as soon as I send out DS230... this waiting time is just killing us, and I can't wait to get this whole K-1 process done. Haha:D

And yes, I noticed that confusing buildings of Chiba police dept.... even the lady I talked to on the phone mentioned it for me and she repeatedly told me the direction to the right one... Hehehe

I would definitely check out Seibo Hospital... thank you for the great tips!;) Oh, NOA2, please hurry up!!
