Dear VJ friends.

I am about to take my biometrics next week. When I looked at my biometric appointment letter, I realized that I have a USCIS A# there. Is this my Alien number? I even haven't done my biometrics yet and all our i-130, 485, 765 are at initial review now...I do not have a A number before since I am adjusting from F1 visa. Is that normal?? Or this is some mistake.....

Thanks!

Jo

I think it is normal since my wife got an A number on her bio appointment letter too. She is also adjusting from F1 visa.

yup, that's where it gets official - you are officially accepted for becoming what they call legal Alien in the US hence you get the A# (alien registration number) assigned :)

...and yes, as far as the F-1 without the number goes, that's right - (am former F-1 myself) foreign students are here for a limited time, on a non-immigrant status/visa, get administered by the visa number and I-94 numbers.

But with filing AOS you lost this status as you want to adjust from non-immigrant to migrant to the US, different class.

Good luck on your journeys!!! If you have any questions, post'em here and we'll be happy to share our thoughts, knowledge and experiences with you guys.
