Hi guys...

Just filling out forms ready for pack three. I have a few questions which I hope some of you may be able to answer:

DS-156K: States that you should include Birth certificates, Police certificates and financial support.

Firstly, I need my police cert for my medical so assumingly I cant send this back until I have taken the medical. Or can I take a copy to the medical? Secondly, I didnt think you needed to supply the I-134 stuff until the interview. Can someone confirm?

DS-230: Questions 14 to 17 refer to your spouse. I have completed it with the details of my fiance, but by definition she is not my spouse. Do I leave it blank or...?

About your documents (birth certificate, police certificate, etc.) always send copies and keep the originals with you. You will continue making copies to submit at various times throughout the process, but you should always have the original.

About the DS-230, you are not married yet, so you write that you are single and leave it blank.

You don't send any original forms - you will be asked for these at interview (they return them to you at the end) Just send copies.

Where a question refers to your spouse, don't leave anything blank - put N/A if a questions doesn't apply to your situation. If you want to give explanatory information, put "see attached sheet" and give your explanation there.

Blank spaces prompt RFIs which can delay your process.

No, London applicants do not send BC, Police Certificate or financials with DS-156k. They Get handed over at the interview.

You will need the police certificate for the medical.

My fiance is sending it all this weekend as we were under the impression that we didn't need it until the interview and I dont want to delay the process. If I need to send copies, I guess I can just ask her to scan it all in and print out this end.

Look here http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html It takes you through each step. Notice under the heading,'What happens next' at the bottom it states;

On the day of the visa interview, you will be required to bring all of your original documents, or certified copies, plus one photocopy to the visa interview......... So just get packet 3 documents back to then for now and everything else will be presented at the interview.

Agree with Amerbrit. London only wants the forms but no documents mailed. Take photocopies of the docs you want back like birth certificate. They check out the originals and keep the photocopy for the file. They will hand back your originals at the interview (second time you get called up to a window.)

I called the DOS last week and apparently our Pack 3 was sent out on Thursday. No sign of it in Friday, Saturday or todays post...am I being impatient or can anyone advise how long its supposed to take to get here?

No need to wait for delivery of it. It will just be a letter with the weblink that i sent you in the earlier post. If you have the packet3 forms ready to go, then you can go ahead and send them to the address in the link.

Oh fantastic...I have seen a few people talk about cover letters. Is there a format I should follow (things they want to see) or just a general cover letter).

Furthermore, as you know, the DS-230 comes in two parts, though they are part of the same PDF file. Do I really only send part 1?

Just a normal cover letter, like you done for your I-129F petition, will be fine.

And yes, follow the instructions to the letter, only send DS230- part1 with the packet 3 forms.

Definitely send them before getting your letter. There is no need to wait. I think you've been waiting long enough; you shouldn't tack on more time if it's unnecessary.

DS-230 (part 1) goes with P3, part 2 goes with you to the interview.

Did you read the instructions on the London website? http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

Step Two discusses what to put in a cover letter to accompany your DS-2001 Notification of Applicant(s) Readiness form if you are sending it now.

A K1 does not ever need Part 2 of DS-230.

I have read that both PaulandBeckyR and Gap1 were asked for DS-230-part2 at the interview.
