Work vs permanent residence for CR-1 qualifications

I am planning to apply for a CR-1 for my future wife to come to the US as a permanent resident. I understand that my residence must be in the US in order to do this. What if I take up a temporary job in Canada? My citizenship would be US citizen, and my permanent address would still be in the US. Would this prevent me, or trouble me in obtaining a CR-1 for my spouse? Also, once my spouse does come to the us as a permanent resident through a CR-1 visa, how easily can she come live with me in Canada (temporarily until I am released from the job)? Thanks for your inputs.

Nothing preventing you from filing an I-130 for a spouse visa.

What you are thinking about is proving US Domicile as required for the I-864 that will later be required by NVC. this is a common issue with Direct Consulate Filing cases.

Simply maintain US domicile, maintain US bank accounts, US address, file IRS returns... to show living overseas is a temporary condition.

Yes A green-card holder can travel out of the USA for limited periods of time without risking loss of residency status.

Canada allows green-card holders to visit without a visa, however I am not sure as to the length of visit allowed.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.
