You are adjusting status from a K-1, not (Work/Student/Tourist) Moving to correct forum.

K-1 should apply for SSN about 2 weeks after entry, but no more than 75 days after entry. In some locations in the USA the K-1 needs SSN to apply for a marriage license.

US Civil surgeon needed only if you have an incomplete vaccinations record (DS-3025) from Visa Medical. If doctor overseas did not do a DS-3025, then you will need to get your foreign vaccinations record transferred to an I-693 by a US Civil Surgeon... Be aware of US Civil Surgeons some like to try hitting you for a FULL Medical, this is not a requirement, only the vaccinations record needs to be done, FEE should be $25 - $50 or so.

Age 18 - 64 are required to have:

  • MMR
  • Td
  • Variccella (AKA Chicken Pox)
  • The FLU if in season

-You can try before, bring your ssn application form, valid i-94 and passport and print this out

will i be getting a "temporary ssn" pending marriage or AOS application?

My Understanding is that it is not temporary, but go back with your marriage cert and ead or green card so you can change it to your married name

what docs/forms should i bring to the civil surgeon?

did USEM mark your vaccination page incomplete? If yes just bring that and the 693 form and they will transcribe it and sign it and give u the necessary shots that you lack. :) dont redo the medical. sorry i dont know the civil surgeons in CA but there is a thread about civil surgeons be sure to look there
