Right wingers used to talk about a 'starve-the-beast' strategy wherein they could achieve their goal of ending socialist programs (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security). As budget deficits become worse and eventually unsustainable and the public so conditioned to demand tax cuts, there will be no alternative but to end these programs. Guess what people, we are rapidly getting there! My guess is that medicaid goes first, along with drastic cutbacks on medicare. Whether the public will accept tax increases to pay for these programs remains to be seen. But I think it obvious that we are being steered toward crisis by the plutocrats who control the republican party and a large part of the democratic party.

Deport the Plutocrats back to Pluto !

We can't afford to keep our old and sick and unemployed fed and housed and doctored, but we can afford a military bigger than all the rest of the world put together ? (It's for defense, not offense you know)

Right wing logic never changes and never makes sense to the old, the weak, the sick

When the British soldiers saw how much the rich spend on the military to preserve the country estates for aristocrats like Churchill, they came home in 1945 a kicked the bums out and got their piece of the pie and they kept it.

No right wing Tory DARE try and reduce the National Health System for fear of 'we the people'

The only time you would see revolution in the UK is if some American insurance company came over and tried to enslave them in the way that Americans are enslaved.

Why do you think people in 1st world countries make $30-100k+ per year and have nice houses

and cars and an abundance of food on their tables, while the rest of the world lives on $1/day?

Is it because the rest of the world is stupid? Or because our military budget is bigger

than the rest of the world combined?

It's obviously because our military budget is bigger. When it reaches 100% of out national product, we will have even bigger houses and cars - and free uniforms - but wait, are free uniforms socialism ?

Really, 98% of the US is getting poorer and poorer and the military budget has a lot to do with it. It is sacred cow to conservatives but Medicare and Medicaid and unemployment pay are targets because they just don't care about people

If the price of my bigger car is someone dying in pain, I will have a smaller car - that's the essential difference between a lefty and a righty and no more detailed definition is needed. Right wingers say "I don't care about anyone, I want a bigger car, but I do give to church charity so I am a goody really"

I don't know how right wing people dare show their faces in daylight given their doctrine

?

It's coming. Might as well get in on the 10th floor, or wherever construction of this Sino-American monolith is at this point. $4 prescriptions. $78 medical visits.

I was actually born 'private' before free births

The doctor came to the house every Friday for a shilling to pay for my arrival. Well worth it in my case.

I wonder if they would have repo'd me if my Ma hadn't paid ? In the US it's easier, they take the kid to 7 years in the cotton fields once he is old enough for stoop labor. It's only right.

Free enterprise, ownership, property rights - obligations !

With a nod to the thread title, guns are going to get the treatment one day in the US.

The time scale will be the same as all the other social issues - long but remorseless in one direction

Obama won't touch it - not in his second term either. He is a sell out with no principles and thinks only of staying where he got.

I will vote for him because of :

He's President, not Emperor. He can't "do something" about gun control even if he wanted to.

He could have legislation introduced now but it would fail.

He could have introduced it when he had a majority in both houses and the presidency. He didn't coz he is yeller.

He isn't white, he isn't black - he is a yeller belly cowardy custard face book twittering tweet machine

I will still vote for him - flu is better than cholera

Presidents don't introduce legislation.

As for the so-called "super majorities", they were dependent on Lieberman and conservadems like Blanche Lincoln and Ben Nelson and Evan Bayh and others. There has never been a progressive majority in either house (and won't be for a long time, if ever).
