Hi everyone

I went to the Social security place here in texas and i applied for SSN, but the girl told me there i the office that i have to wait for 21 days, she also asked me to call the DHS. She informed me that most cases here immigrants get two cards.

I hope to cleared with this policy. I do want to start working and earn money for me and my family. I know they will only allow me to work if i have SSN.

Does anyone has the same experience as i am.

would like to konw what should i do next.

THank you

The I-551 stamp in passport or actual green-card allows work, not SSN.

Many employers will hire with evidence of green-card, and will let you provide them SSN when you get it.

It can take upwards of 21 days for USCIS to update database used by SSA to confirm your immigrations status.

Note an immigrant spouse on a CR-1 will not have an I-94 card, I-94 is for NON-Immigrants like K-1

On your visa application (form DS-230), question #43b asked "Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you a SSN and issue a card?" If you checked "YES" for this question, then your Social Security card should be sent to you automatically. I believe that is what the lady the the SSA office was talking about. They don't want you to end up with two social security numbers/cards.

Did you check off on the DS-230 that you wanted to be assigned an SSN? If did, best that you wait the three weeks to see if you are assigned a number. If you didn't check off on the DS-230, there is no reason that you can't apply now.
