Police Certificate

I was wondering if now would be a good time to get my husbands UK Police Certificate. I've heard somewhere that it is good for 6 months and then from another place that it was good for 12 months. Does anyone have the correct info? I would like to get everything done as soon as possible without chancing that things will be expired by the time they are needed.

I would apply for it just after USCIS approves the petition, it will be needed when NVC requests foreign documents.

Police cert is valid 1 year.
