Registering Marriage in Brazil

For anyone who has actually done this...

We have registered our marriage with the Brazilian Consulate in the US. How do we make it official in Brazil and change things like my wife's last name, etc.? Do both spouses need to be there or can one of us go and make the changes?

I think we can change her passport in the US but beyond that I'm lost. Can she get a new birth certificate?

******
