It's Christmas Time and we are Still Married

So this is the thread that got me thinking: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/287228-still-married/

One contention in this thread was that you can tell a lot about someone from their interactions with others. And that (obviously) you don't get this knowledge while chatting with someone online.

OK, I think it's safe to say that a lot of the regular posters to this forum are VJ old-timers. Been married a while. Some met online.

So in the spirit of Christmas gratitude, if you met your spouse online, AND if you have been married long enought to get the 10 year greencard ( ) what is the one most positive and compelling characteristic of your spouse that you suspected before you met face to face, that turned out to be true?

For me, it's my other half's goodness of heart. Everyone comments on it - seriously. After they get to know my spouse, people ALWAYS say what a true, honest, caring person I've married.

And they say I'm lucky .

Nice topic, JohnnyQuest and I would agree that you are a lucky man.

I would say that I had strong suspicions before marriage that this was the case but wondered if it would last - and it has . . . my husband honestly and truly totally accepts me for who I am and has no expectations of me, nor makes any demands/requirements (subtle or overt) for me to change or meet his requirements or needs or do or be any other person that the one I truly am. That sense of total acceptance is wonderful - very liberating - and at the same time, makes me very conscious not to take it for granted and end up denying him the same acceptance and freedom to be who he is (even for the traits and qualities we don't particularly appreciate - and we both have those ).

She's sometimes more bitter than sweet, but most of the time, that's ok because my sweet tooth fell out awhile back.

I finally discovered that marriage is the art of tolerating another human being that you can't escape from for more than about 8 hours without missing them terribly.
