In the list of required documents to include with this form, it states "evidence of engagement". I thought this was just required at the interview stage with the proof of ongoing relationship. Does anyone know what they're looking for?

does your packet 3 require you to send in the evidence of financial support in before the interview?

if so there is a great chance that you have to send some evidence in with the packet 3.

A new letter of intent from both of you, with the London Embassy address, should be all that is needed here.

They just want something with each of your signatures saying that you are engaged, to such and such, and intend to get married within 90 days of his arrival

A few questions:

#14. National identification number? What is this?

#26-28, what do we fill in for this since it's a K-1 visa? Right now we have "indefinitely" for 26, "marriage, entering on K-1 visa" for 27 and "I will" for 28.

#22. When do you intend on entering the US....what should we say? Should we put what month he's hoping to arrive?

A few questions:

#14. National identification number? What is this? Not applicable, though I guess you could put National Insurance number here. But probably not.

#26-28, what do we fill in for this since it's a K-1 visa? Right now we have "indefinitely" for 26, "marriage, entering on K-1 visa" for 27 and "I will" for 28. Sounds fine. This is the general non-immigrant form and is obviously mostly irrelevant. Many of the questions on this form are trying to establish if the visitor might be at risk of trying to stay in the US. Obviously the non-immigrant fiancee doing K1 IS planning to stay in the US, and so those questions don't really matter. Answer as best you can and don't worry about it.

#22. When do you intend on entering the US....what should we say? Should we put what month he's hoping to arrive? You could put a month if you want to, it doesn't matter if it ends up being some other time.

London does not want any of those things listed on the DS-156K sent in the mail. Only mail the forms and the checklist. London Instructions here and here.

And London will not care about further proofs of your engagement or relationship or photos or emails at the interview. Spend your time reading their list of documents to bring to the interview and get those spot on. Read that second link carefully as it tells you in bold type exactly what to bring and explanation of each.

Do we not fill out Part 2 of DS-230?

Only the DS forms go to London in the mail. You can start with

DS-230 Part 1 --only page 1&2. The other pages apply to a different visa. Throw away p. 3&4

Form DS-156 - DUPLICATE

Form DS-157 - DUPLICATE

Form DS-156-K (

That will get your file started. Then you gather the documents they instruct you on that second link--long form birth certificate, police certificate, I-134 with 2 proofs of income from the USC, any divorce decree, court records, military if applicable to you, etc. Go by London's list, no other country's. When you have those in hand, you can fill out and mail.

DS 2001 (often called the checklist because it actually had a list where you checked off the things you had ready to bring to the interview.

BUT TO be super efficient, gather the "checklist" items early and send form DS2001 with the other four DS forms.

Pay attention to what they say to include in a cover letter.....with a covering letter containing your email address, if applicable, date of your wedding and date of the medical examination.

So you can mail

DS-230 Part 1 --only page 1&2. The other pages apply to a different visa. Throw away p. 3&4

Form DS-156 - DUPLICATE

Form DS-157 - DUPLICATE

Form DS-156-K

and later when you have the documents

DS2001

Cover letter

OR if you prepare early mail all 6 things together.

Yeah, we've had all the necessary documents for months now. He has his medical on Thursday. I'm trying to save time by just sending everything in once I confirm the embassy is sending out Packet 3 so we don't have to wait for snail mail. So DS-2001 is the checklist, I was just making sure there wasn't a special piece of paper only obtained in packet 3.

Thanks for your help! Any tips on how I can confirm the embassy has processed our application? I tried calling today and the woman said I can't call the visa info number from outside of the US unless I wanted to pay $20 for the call and I need to know if they've received our petition.

Wait. You confused me. I thought we didn't need to include relationship evidence, birth certificate, police check and intent letter with packet 3...I thought that was for the interview?

Can someone please confirm this? We're sending in Packet 3 tomorrow...we're JUST sending in the DS forms and checklist. We have everything else but I was told initially London doesn't need these things until the interview.
