I have dual citizenship of Romania and the US. I recently got married in Romania, and I have no idea how to change my name here in the States on all my documents. The marriage certificate does not need to be translated (it is in English as well). I read you have to have certified copies, but the little town I got married in doesn't even make certified copies. I can't send the original everywhere...

You bring the original with you to the SSN office to the DMV etc. You show them it and then they can make a copy if they need it. Most places will accept a colour copy as long as they can see the seal or stamp clearly.

You bring the original with you to the SSN office to the DMV etc. You show them it and then they can make a copy if they need it. Most places will accept a colour copy as long as they can see the seal or stamp clearly.

What I would do is make several notarized copies. It's official and most banks do it for free. Go with the original paper and the copies to a bank and ask them to notarize it for you. With the original as a control point I don't think there will be a problem.

I also think, even though the paper is translated, that you need an apostille with it to make it official. I'm also not sure they will accept the Romanian translation of the document. It might be that you have to let it translate by an official Romanian/English translator here in the US. Shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Worst case scenario - you can have the Romanian consulate do a similar service. just a thought
