Hi everyone!

Christmas time is fast approaching. The weather is getting alittle colder, stores are stocking items for upcoming sales, and people are preparing grand menus for upcoming feasts. My wife and I are very excited this year. We are planning to spend Christmas in the Philippines. We have spent the previous two Christmases here in the U.S. It was very enjoyable. My wife saw snow for the first time. We cuddled next to a warm fireplace for the first time. We attended Simbang Gabi (American style) for the first time.

But there are some things we miss. We miss the puto bumbong and hot tsokolate during the cold mornings there. We also miss all the gulay and seafood there.

So...what are your plans for Christmas this year? Any of you guys going back to Philippines? What places are you planning to visit? If you're staying in the U.S., what are your plans? Traditional American Christmas or Paskong Pinoy? :D

Lucky you guys! I miss spending christmas in the Philippines, the way we celebrate it,really extraordinary, even my husband says that, since he experienced it once..

We might stay home and make some Polish-Filipino foods.

Hi Charlie&Pam! That sounds great! Who doesn't like lumpia, right? :lol:

The simbang gabi here is much easier to attend. They celebrate it in the early evening. Unlike in the Philippines, where it's 3 or 4AM!

will be spending it here since i went home earlier this year for my oldest son's summer vacation. besides...with me having so many pamangkins and inaanaks back home, the wife has forbidden me to go to the Philippines during the holiday seasons lol. she has a point though...because since they know i am there, they bring all their kids over for some christmas goodies :lol:

oh and correct me if i'm wrong...but isn't the polish version of piroshky called pierogi? but yeah...i must agree, piroshkies are really good! used to always eat that when i was in middle school in SF.

You're right! I stand corrected. Piroshky is Russian, not Polish. Pierogi is pretty similar.

Have you attended simbang gabi here in the States? The Filipino Catholic Community of Arizona celebrates it, if you're interested.

yup!..and she did not sugar coat it either. her exact words were "Bawal ka na umuwi dito sa Pilipinas pag pasko!" :lol: so that last time i was home with them for christmas was in 2000 when my oldest was still just a baby. would love to be with the wife and kids during the holidays though...but every time we talk about planning it, bossing always tells me marami akong inaanak na kailangan pamaskuhan. the story behind being banned was because in 2000, i didn't know i was made ninong by my cousins (i have a lot of them)...so when i came back, one month of my trip allowance got spent on giving it away (i was stayed for 4 months). needless to say...i slept on the couch the the evening of the 26th :rofl:

You guys are lucky. I'm not even sure if my hubby and I will get to see each other this Christmas. He's currently in the US and jobless so he doesn't have money for plane ticket and my papers are still being processed so I have no means to go there. However, if he had money, we plan on spending it in the Philippines, sort of our last Christmas here before settling down in the US.
