I decided not to change my name until everything was final and he was here in the states with me. I saw somewhere that if names on paper work don't match others, you needed to send along proof of the name change and since that just sounded like more paperwork (to explain why my driver's license, SS card, tax returns are in my old name) I thought it would just be easier to do everything now with the name that is on everything still.... and then change it all later. Guess that's like you Sam?? Good luck!

That's my plan too. It just keeps things so much simpler to do all the paperwork in my maiden name. Once we're through all of this immigration stuff I'll change it. Plus I'm working six days a week right now, and I'm tired! I'm do lazy to do all that right now--one project at a time! :-)

I changed my name as soon as I got home from our wedding with social security...all the info I put on our paperwork was with my "new" name :) I just received my passport (which only took about 2 weeks without paying an extra fee for expedite).

She did it along the way..most important is the SSN name change..then we filed...after that you can deal with those other things during the process...although I wouldn't take forever..because they will at some point run a background check, and if you haven't changed it, they'll ask for an RFE as to why you didn't change your last name to your new married name...suspicious of a sham marriage.

Wow,, I have never taken my husbands last name and I have been married twice here in the US...

I'm also the USC wife and haven't done an official name change yet and haven't made a decision on whether I will or not. I might decide to keep my maiden name for official purposes and just use married for non official and it doesn't make me love my husband any less and I even love his last name too.

For the time being while in the immigration process changing my name is something I don't want to spend time or money on seeing how immigration itself it costly and time consuming, it doesn't worry me at all because my marriage is perfectly valid even though I'm still using my maiden name, and it might make it a little bit easier on me also with paperwork imo.

Some people are traditional and some aren't so we shouldn't judge peoples personal choices either way =)

“Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (Corinthians 13:4-7)
