Is a SPA from the US recognized in the Philippines

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with my problem.

I am currently residing here in the states. Now my problem is, my dad's death benefits are in and checks are payable to me. Is there anyway my mother could in cash my checks in behalf of me? Should I execute a Special power of Attorney? Is a SPA from the states recognized by the bank in the Philippines? Please help me guys. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kabayan,

My uncle had the same situation, he authorized my cousin(his son) to deal with the bank with some sort of note/SPA from the Philippine Embassy. This is his SSS retirement benefit, and they have to renew this note every 2 years if I'm not mistaken. Maybe you can check with the closest Philippine Embassy in your area for more information. BTW, my uncle is a US citizen.

as what i know SSS has different branches worldwide esp. in USA Canada and some part of Europe and also in middle east u can contact them by browsing the internet for other infos about their numbers and location for a certain country.Hope it will help GODBLESS
