Hi all!

My question is on whether anyone has had any experience in traveling on K-1(Russia>USA) and how they dealt with extra baggage when traveling by air. Do airlines make an exception for K visa travelers as regards increasing allowances? Any other way to get more luggage shipped when you fly?

No exceptions that I have ever heard about. Sure you can take more luggage, but you will pay. Tell them not to bring so much stuff. Replace it here or pick it up when visiting the next time there. My wife came here with one suit case. Only thing she really left behind that she was missing were books.

If you suck at playing the trumpet, that may be why.

Thank you for the comment, obviously all of that is common knowledge but I am looking for more concrete information on shipping with airlines, which I have heard can be done

If you fly from Moscow with stops (London, Rome etc.) the allowance is going to be 20 kg whatsoever due to change of air carriers.

Whereas when you fly from Vladivostok via Korean Air, they do allow 40 kg on economy class to US/Canada flights.

No exception; you will pay extra. Many ship stuff via DHL separately.

We used Transglobal Express to ship here from the UK. They charged £250 for about 75kg of stuff, and it'll be here within a week. (Before he arrives.) They even offer boxes and such if you need it. Peter said the boxes they gave him were huge! He ended up only needing 3 to hold everything he was sending. This was the best option we found. They come to your house to collect the boxes, and ship them directly to your address in the US via DHL Express.
