In my line of work, there are other skills that are more important than great spelling or grammar.

That may be, but if you can't be bothered to go through even the simplest steps to make a good resume, then what does that say about the kind of employee you're going to be? The whole purpose of a resume is to make a good first impression. If I can't even read it, or I see that you didn't put much effort into it, that doesn't make a particularly good impression.

I work in IT also and one thing that always surprises me is how many IT people cannot type! That always shocks the sox off of me! I mean, that is like a mechanic who can't use a hammer! It just doesn't make sense. Granted, they can't type but they are super-sharp...but...still...
