OK so I leave for Vancouver in just over a week and I'm nervous as all heck! I've got all my documents together and copies of everything. I am trying to focus on being positive and calm but i'm curious what kind of questions they ask at the interview?

In mtl they just asked how we met and how often we saw each other.

These are the most common questions they asked us:

-Where my fiancé was currently living in the U.S?

-When we met?

-How we met?

-What we both do for work?

-Last time I was in the U.S and how often we saw each other?

-Any problems crossing the border?

-What's the wedding date?

Best of luck...

Don't worry it's really laid back, they ask things you should already know the answers too :)

The Vancouver Consulate staff is awesome! They're VERY organized, and very friendly...they're there to help, so while I know it's nerve-wracking, try to relax knowing that they'll help make the process as easy as possible.

In our case, the Vice Consular asked me to tell him about the night we met, he asked my Fiance (who came to the interview with me) about his job, and also what I plan to do for work once I move and get settled. That's about all. I brought boarding passes with me, more current e-mails and phone records and photos, but they didn't ask to see them. The majority of the time I spent at the Consulate involved waiting...waiting for them to take your fingerprints, waiting for the interview. The interview itself took maybe 15 min? One thing I do recommend is that you and/or fiance provide an updated letter of intent, similar to the one you sent with the original package but with a more current date. We included one, and they seemed to appreciate that..they kept it with our file.

A couple of things to note: There are no washrooms on the 20th floor, so make sure if you need to use one, you use the one on the 2nd floor before they take you up. Also, unless you plan to be in Vancouver the entire next day to pick up your visa (which is usually ready after 2pm), make sure to bring a PACK-size XpressPost mailer with you (I think it's the 294mm x 304mm one).

All the best! Everything will be fine.

Ohhh thanks for the tips on the washrooms because I have my 6yr old with me!

I do have an updated letter of intent and I am flying in the evening of the next day so I can PU my Visa - I promised my little one we'd go somewhere special after we were done all the business junk.

Thanks for the information, you guys are the best! (L)

I think I missed a few questions in my review... but mostly just about how we met and what I did for a living.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

You'll be fine. Vancouver is great! I'm glad my interview was there. I had a woman, (Hong) and she was so nice and sweet. The main purpose of their job is to make sure you have a bonafide relationship, and that you won't be a public charge, (hence what he does for a living and will he support you and your daughter). Bring everything that is asked for, (they may not ask for it, but it's good to have), and keep yourself organized, and acting calm at least. I was nervous too, and there were 3 of us that day, I was the last. The other 2 didn't look like things were going well for them...so you can imagine how I was feeling when they called MY name.. But I just smiled, (important to do that too :)) and we had a pleasant chat with each other.

It's really easy, but lots of waiting.

Oh! I really don't know how important this is...but I think that having an actual wedding date, and departure date is good, as it shows confidence that you're expecting the visa!

Can't wait to read the "I'm approved" in your subject line...and to hear all about your trip to Vancouver. What a beautiful city!

Well, I DO feel confident as we meet all the criteria, and I worked in the US for 3 years before this point. I have a letter of reference from my former employer with his GA address on it too just in case so that should help! Got me a wedding date too!! You guys help me feel OK about the process and comfortable with the interview and medical. All my ducks are in a row now but its just the waiting!! I'll be sure to pack all your positivity and good thoughts with me =)

Thanks again!! :D
