Does a 3 year old need to submit all the same documents that a foreign spouse would? With the obvious acception of the marriage certificate it seems that the process is the same. Is there a step-by-step guide for petitioning a child?

Stepparent/Stepchild:

If your petition is based on a stepparent-stepchild relationship, you must file your petition with a copy of the marriage certificate of the stepparent to the child's natural parent showing that the marriage occurred before the child's 18th birthday, copies of documents showing that any prior marriages were legally terminated and a copy of the stepchild's birth certificate.

What would be approximate list of documents needed for submission to NVC in our case? Just want to make everything ready, and to do it as quick as possible.

You would need the affidavit of support, ds230, photocopy of biographical page of passport, 2 passport size pictures(2 inch by 2 inch), notarized letter from other biological parent or a court order stating the child can move to the US(originals), original birth certificate of child, original marriage certificate to child's biological parent.

I believe that is all that I sent in with my kids.

I filled out my kids ds230's they were 9 and 12. I signed it and put mother in brackets, only part one needs to be signed when submitting. Fill out part two, but do not sign.

They will get sent to the embassy and should be returned at interview.
