Whether monogamy is unnatural for whatever reason, it seems most people get to a point in their lives where they just want that one person who will stay by their side until they are old. Why do we want one person to focus on us and to reciprocate that if we aren't supposed to? I think finding one person that you can stay with forever would be one of the best blessings in this life. I am not judging everyone who has gotten divorced or remarried, I know life isn't predictable. I am not going to even touch the ideas of swingers or open relationships. It is way out of my world, and I don't relate to it at all nor would I want to be a part of it.

I couldn't agree more.

Some of the more idiotic claims include:

1) 'A man's testicles are located externally to allow for more sperm storage.' First, this is biologically not true. The cooler temperature is required for sperm creation, not storage. Second, reproduction requires sperm storage regardless of the number of partners so if this false fact were true it wouldn't prove the point.

2) 'A woman's capacity for multiple orgasms validates the claim of promiscuity." How? A woman can have multiple orgasms from sex with one man while failing to orgasm during group sex. This simply doesn't support the author's claim.

3) 'A larger ####### and premature ejaculation indicate a history of sperm competition.' This simply doesn't make any sense. The probability of the sperm reaching the egg first doesn't depend on the size of the ####### or the length of the sexual encounter. No further comment.

4) 'Our ancestors evolved in small-scale, highly egalitarian foraging groups that shared almost everything.' There is no evidence to suggest that such a society ever existed. History has shown that such societies are, quite the opposite from what the author suggests, unstable and unproductive. The Soviet Union tried to create something like this where property was general and family relationships were ignored (children not raised by parents, etc.). Within a short period of time, it was realized that trying to eliminate families in this way simply led to chaos and instability.

I think, ideally, I too would like to be in a committed, long-term relationship with one person. I can't say if it would be forever -- I've tried the forever thing and it doesn't seem (and I stress seem) to work for me too well. But I can see how being in the relationship I'm currently in is eventually going to grow weary, and I will long to have one person who is committed only to me. I'm not a swinger, and although my paramour is in an open relationship, I am not. He is the only man I want to be with right now.

I'm the mistress of a man who openly has relationships outside of his marriage, with the permission of his wife (who also takes lovers from time to time). I am also free to see other men, though I have not yet done so. I'm very new to this game, though, so I am not sure how successful I will be in a relationship like this. I strongly suspect that eventually I will feel the need to be monogamous again to be to great to ignore.

One of the main reasons why he does not stay in the confines of his marriage (which only happened for tax reasons) is his own critique of the substitution of property relations for affective relations, as mentioned above. Personally, I'm just in it for the sex.
