So last night I managed to get all the way through the online DS-160, saving data as I went. I digitally signed it at the end, then clicked "print confirmation" and the printer wouldn't respond. Tried everything. Since I was using my cousin's computer and it was getting late, I needed to go home. I did copy down a confirmation number I saw at the end, just in case I needed it if I had to contact anyone. Is that what you'd call my confirmation receipt? The number starts with "AA" followed by a combination of 8 more letters and numbers.

So now what? I need a printed out confirmation receipt, and of course a copy of the form to sent to Montreal as per the packet 3 instructions. If I can't get access to a working printer, what are my options? Has anyone run into this problem themselves?

By the way, tomorrow I'm leaving on a surprise trip to see my sweetie. Not telling him until tomorrow morning that he'd better pick me up at the airport!

Redo it. You won't be the first (or the last) that screwed it up the first time. It happens. No bid deal...just a huge waste of your time doing it all over again.

We had loads of trouble getting access to a working printer, that's why our timeline has so long between receiving and sending back Packet 3! We'd probably have our interview scheduled by now if Montréal would've accepted hand-filled forms. :P

They do need the barcode, it has all the information in the form encoded in it. Don't worry about any applications you've done where you didn't print the barcode, they'll only look at the one you print.

when next you try again,

make sure you install a pdf print driver on yer puter - I like CutePDF print driver.

Then, if any printer problems (again) you can print to pdf, take the pdf file to any computer that has a working printer (and an acrobat reader program) installed.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'm leaving for a visit to the States tomorrow, so I'll continue what I was doing when I get there. Hope everything works out ok, or I'll have to give Montreal a call I guess.

As for the picture, I never did upload one. Well I uploaded one that it didn't accept (just a pic of a flower, because I didn't have a pic of myself on the computer lol). And then I managed to get past the picture uploading part and made it to the end. I understand that I can just bring the pic to my interview, right? Or do I need to send it in with the DS-160 and the other forms they requested?

I've mention this before but not sure if you read back to your old posts, but they need a picture. It's why they ask for it :innocent: if it wasn't mandatory ahead of time they wouldn't ask for it. When you arrive to the US just have you man take a picture using a digital, crop it and use that. It's easy to do, don't worry!

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

03/23/2015 Received Case and Inv # from NVC after many calls and bogus excuses.

03/24/2015 AOS payment accepted by NVC

04/09/2015 IV payment finally accepted by NVC after the set the wrong fee and took weeks to correct it.

*many more delays thanks to the agency processing my fingers prints to the RCMP and the post office losing our mail*

I wonder how I managed to get to the digitally signing part if the picture didn't work? Oh well, I'll do as you suggested. I suppose the pic of me has to look somewhat like my passport pic so they know it's me? lol Oh horrors!

Maybe the shadowing you had of the flower was similar to a persons face? hahaha... would have been quite the surprise to Montreal when they'd look up our file though!

Yes, you can just bring 2 identical passport-style photos to the interview instead if you're unable to upload them. You do not need to mail the photos with the DS-160.

You just need to try to upload some image in the test (like you did with the flower) and have it fail in order to get through the form.
