DS-156

My fiance got his packet 3 and for the form DS-156 it said to fill it and that embassy would take care of the barcodes. When I looked at the embassy's website online it said to fill it out electronically to generate a barcode and failure to do this would delay the application. What did you guys do in regards to this?

Hi!

I filled in mine using the website - it produces a PDF file format document (with the barcode) that you can save and print out - much easier than filling in the form by hand.

I even got it wrong a few times and had to print it again, with a different barcode being generated. It didn't seem to cause a problem.

Use the online version if you can. It used to say that using the non-electronic version would increase processing time of packet 3. I don't know if anyone has actually proved if this is true or not but If you can avoid any possible delays by using the elctronic one, I'd go for it !!

Oh shoot, looks like i need to get printer for my fiancee.

I would do it online as it supposedly saves the embassy time on inputting your info from the form onto there system..not sure if that is correct but thats what the embassy told me. Dwar 49...dont need to get a printer just for that do it in an internet cafe.

I don't think it makes a hill of beans difference.

There was a member here last summer who was scolded during their consulate interview for having used the form from the website and not using the one that was sent to them in the post. They were approved nonetheless.

I e-mailed the embassy about this about 2 months ago and they replied to say either way of completing the formwas good - remember there are some forms that you do not sign now!!

Yes we know that some forms are signed at the interview, thanks for the info. I had planned on emailing the embassy with a couple of questions in near future. I will post the answers here so that others can get the straight skinny.

You should return the DS-156 forms unsigned to the Embassy. Please do

not attach any original documents to the DS-156K. You should bring these

documents to the interview with you.

You may complete the DS-156 online or by hand.
