I think you're probably right and he isn't the only one.

Either some of the people here aren't being honest because they aren't willing to take the topic seriously, they are immature or they lack the ability to understand emotional connection. Options 1 and 2 seem more plausible to me than the third - because if that were the case then it would seem that there are a whole lot of psychopaths on VJ.

It seems to me there's almost always two distinct camps on every single one of these issues here on VJ. Surprisingly enough... the same people tend to be on the same sides. Why is that?

There is an interesting power dynamic involved with many sexual encounters. Probably moreso than emotional dynamics. At minimum, they at least overlap.

I was talking about people having emotional attachments to family members (i.e. being able to empathise with others - it's a core human trait after all) and admitting that if you did indeed have a daughter and she did indeed become a prostitute - you wouldn't be happy about it, nor would you brag about it to others. At least - not unless you live in a community with extremely low standards:

In Cincinnati, of course I'd be upset. Prostitution is illegal and not a very lucrative business. If we lived in Moscow, St. Pete, Vladivostok.... I probably wouldn't have a problem with it at all provided she wasn't a crack ####### and was the "uppity" type of call girl or worked in a reputable club.

I'm typically pretty honest, especially in the relative anonymity of the internet. I do post sarcstic things sometimes although this isn't one of those times.

Incapable of empathy is most certainly true. I have a hard time being empathetic towards adults who are in certain situations. Prostitution is one of them.

Is it too hard for you to realize that maybe our moral standards differ and that doesn't necessarily mean I'm a psychopath? Could it also be possible that maybe I don't base my decisions on the same things you do and maybe that's OK? Or is it because something is different from your acceptable standard and someone has disagreed with you that now it's time to lash out again?

The question of morality is moot - it's not about that. Its that you seem incapable of imagining what it would be like to have a daughter and what it would feel like if she were to became a prostitute. If you can't feel empathy for close relatives (even imagined ones) then there is something very wrong.
