Obviously some people want to control what other people do to comply with their beliefs. They think this is OK as long as what is controlled meets THEIR deifinition of things that need to be controlled.

People against Gay marriage, for example, offer equally compelling (if you can call it that) arguments for why gay marriage should be illegal, or even homosexual behavior...dehumanizing, all that rot. You can hear the same arguments for abortion, homophobia, racism, ad nauseum. There is always a good, caring argument for why YOU should control what I do.

I don't understand how someone can be in favor of "women's rights", but think that selling what is hers (or more properly...renting) is dehumanizing. It seems to be the basic dewtermination of whether something is yours or not..can you sell it? If you cannot sell it, it is not yours.

In fact I consider it insulting that people consider it dehumanizing. It is like the "anti-porn" people who claim that photos of naked women are "obscene". Excuse me? I am not a believer in God but what kind of God creates an "obscene" being? How can the basic human body that we all have under our clothes be obscene? You know in soe socities at one time, it was illegal even for a doctor to look upon a naked person? They used models of people that patients pointed to to show where it hurt. Do you see where it can go, where it has gone, if we allow other people to decide what is good for OUR bodies?

In most of our societies, there are two things you cannot sell but you can give away...sex and wild game meat. Anything else can be sold, but only if you own it and control it.

This prostitution thing just gets way crazy. When does the massage therapist cross the line from therapist to prostitute? When she touches a client's gentials? When she strokes them? How many times? 3 times? What is prostitution? Intercourse? Oral sex? Hand job? Is it dehumanizing to give a handjob or only if it is for money? It is just silly. Is sex dehumanizing? Or is money dehumanizing, or does it have to be money for sex? Does it have to be cash? Or what if they accept credit cards? What if they accept diamond rings? What about indirect payment? The K-1 interview celebration sex was AWESOME and I paid for the visa fee. Oops.

What about how the Soviet Union handled it? There was no law against prostitution because there WAS no prostitution. Yep, you heard right. The government decided that in the utopian Soviet Union where everyone had free houses, medical care, subsidized everything and there was -0- unemployment...there was no need for prostitutes...so there WERE NONE. May as well ban dinosaurs! How about that? How about we just ignore it and mind our own business and do our jobs and raise our families and cut our lawns and buy our groceries and stop worrying so much about what is going on behind closed doors all over town?

Your excuse for not answering the questions raised is that what goes on 'behind closed doors' is none of your business - yet what was asked was YOUR opinion on what YOU think is ethical within YOUR family, and it's not as if you are slow in offering your opinion wanted or not. You are very quick to accuse people of adhering to this or that political ideology based on the flimsiest of evidence, like whether or not that poster makes a typo - or grammatical error (although consistency even in that approach appears to elude you). No what you want to do is stand their accuse 'libruls' of being curtain twitching nosy parkers - no good, no evidence for that at all.

It is not hard to agree with something like that, but yes, I agree with it as well except I don't see the need to address men and women differently, the advice applies to both equally.

I would love my daughter and wish her the best. I would encourage her to do the best job as a prostitute that she could. If she were happy in her job, I would be happy. If she were unhappy in her work, I would encourage her to try something else. No, I would not go to visit her at her workplace and I would not ask to use her services. Then again, I have brothers that are doctors and I do not ask to use their services either, nor do they serve any other member of our family except to review medical records if we ask them to. Professionals should be that...professional.

Ethically I have no problem with prostitution, legal or illegal for that matter. Though I would prefer my children be in a LEGAL profession, the thread DID assume it was legal.

Yes I have tried to make it abundantly clear that this opinion is based on prostitution being legal, but you really have not answered the question, you have said how you would support her in the light of such a decision. I would hope all parents would be supportive of their children in this way, no matter what they thought of any particular decision and indeed if you remember reading, those who would be unhappy with such a career choice have indicated that of course they would support their daughter because that is what caring parents do.

Simply saying that you do not have any ethical problem with prostitution without saying how you would feel about the thought of your daughter being a prostitute is a non answer and I am left to assume how you might feel. Do you agree at the very least that prostitution is a high risk manual labour job with an arguably low rate of return compared to the risks being run?

However, in the light of your claimed lack of ethical problems with prostitution, would you do it personally, sell your body for sex under the same conditions as a prostitute does? Let us assume you are in a situation where you need some money and this would be the easiest route to getting it - as per how that seems to be the prevailing theory, that women do it for "easy" money.
