jaded - i can't define it. if you are around providers for any length of time, that's is the word that springs to mind.

i didn't mean to say they can't be trusted. i meant to say that men have trust issues when they know that they are in a relationship with a former provider. men think they can deal with it, but in the end, sometimes it is difficult to trust a former provider who is not where she can be seen. no, it isn't just sex if you are in a real relationship with a former provider. once the relationship starts, it is like any other, same expectations. also, i didn't mention that the provider is also just as untrusting of her new 'ex-client' partner. he just might find a provider one day when she isn't looking. major trust issues all the way around.

So the consequence of being a prostitute is that you neither trust men, nor can be trusted? That doesn't seem to me to be very satisfactory - unless of course 'trust' has no value to the person, which from what you are saying does not seem to be the case - at some point most prostitutes, providers, whatever at least want to try a more conventional relationship?

Thanks for answering again by the way. Kudos for that, and I mean it sincerely. These questions could be answered by anyone that has similar experiences as you, but it seems no one else is willing to give it a go.

in the places i have frequented, i know for sure it is truly consensual (no doubt in my mind).

This thread may, in its secret dream part, be wanting to get at the attitudes of the rest of us, how we see sex workers. My own attitude is cut in half: I would work for sex workers' rights, and I would seriously question my own motivation if I ever thought it were a viable option for me. Like, I would think I was a bit broken if it seemed feasible. Discuss.

There are a lot things that I would support legalizing or decriminalizing, like prostitution, but that doesn't equate to endorsing it. I personally think that prostitution, for both the hooker and the john, is a sign there are some personal issues they need to work out.

to answer your question in the op - if i had a kid that was gonna do as you suggested in the op, i'd suggest porn movies as that pays more - plus i'd suspect more porn stars transitioned into the non-porn side of hollywood than hookers.

It just doesn't seem like a serious answer.

Here's the rub for me personally. While there are some men who seem perfectly willing to believe that 'most' prostitutes are prostitutes because they enjoy sex so much they want to share themselves with as many men as possible and don't see why they should not benefit financially and get paid in order to do so (and not something I have any problem with at all), in my opinion, such women are in fact extremely rare. I would estimate that the majority of prostitutes don't actually enjoy the sex at all, and are waiting for each act to be over in order to get the money, and have plans to leave the profession just as soon as they become economically stable. Now, to me, regardless of whether it is legal or not, that strikes me as unsatisfactory and of dubious ethics because a woman who is doing it just for the money and who would change profession if she could is doing it because she is economically forced into the position not because she genuinely chooses that profession.

Now, again, I am sorry this is directed toward you as the one male who has volunteered to talk about this openly, and feel free to ignore it if you had enough of answering the questions, you have been very generous with your time thus far.

it just isn't true that most will leave the profession as soon as they can. i know of many who stay in it for many many years. it becomes a "real" job and so as soon as they are broke, they will go back. it is true that many don't have any other skills and many don't want to conform to a regular work environment or schedule. so many situations. situation is different depending on the country as well. the US has plenty of job opportunities (forget current recession), however 3rd world countries do not. why do women in the US do it (even when the economy is good)? there are hundreds of thousands doing it in the US.

i think you are right, however on one thing. most do it for the cash, not because they like sex more than average.

my feeling is that providers stubble into the profession to survive. they think they'll make some quick cash and then be out of it. the human mind adapts quickly. i bet, if you have to clean filthy dirty ####### filled toilets all day, you would get used to it. they get use to having sex with fat, hairy old guys quicker than they could ever imagine is my belief.
