hello, long time lurker.. just looking for some advice from canadians going through the process..

just got my NVC case # today and noticed that the embassy portion is MTL.

knowing that there is an embassy where i live (Vancouver), i'm just curious - when it comes interview time, will i have to travel to montreal to do it? does vancouver not do interviews for CR-1?

i've dug through some of the forums and saw a couple of people from BC that interviewed in montreal as well but no solid information.

a bit of an inconvenience.. but whatever it takes, right?

thanks for any info in advance.

Congrats on getting your case number.

I'm in BC as well. Montreal is the only US consulate that is authorized to process the CR 1 and IR 1 visas. All the other consulates deal with fiance/e and work visas etc. Montreal also does the non immigrant visas as well, which is part of the work load problem there. So regardless of where you live in Canada, if you are seeking an immigrant visa, then you have no choice but to travel to Montreal. You can do your medical in Vancouver at the Woking Medical Centre. I did mine in June. I'm set to interview in MTL July 27th.

Good luck.

Glad to find some fellow Vancouverites on this forum!! You all seem further ahead in the process than us, congratulations. Can I ask you where you had your fingerprinting done or how you obtained a police record check? I've been waiting since May 27 for ink based prints from the International Finger Printing Service and they strike me as quite disorganized. I'm afraid my prints have been lost! I went to the VPD 312 main street and they sent me away (to the IFPS actually) stating that they dont do poliece record checks for visas. Any help or advice on this issue would be great!!

as far as fingerprints, i wasn't aware fingerprints had to be done. i've only read, actually i just looked and found what i read(by OBX above, you guys are everywhere)

"Just a quick note...a finger print police check is only required if you have a criminal record. Check out this link and scroll down to Police Records." http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_4881.html?cid=3531#docs

edit,

link is broken.. i think this is what the link was for

yeah it depends on the embassy. some of them do visa processing some don't. so even if it is out of the way, sometimes you have to go there.

there are only 2 embassies in japan that do CR-1. so many people have to go to tokyo, even though there are other ones closer to them.
