No humour - it is a serious discussion of toilet trends :P

I have alternated between giggling and gagging. Thank God there is no one else here but the cats.

True story:

When I was researching and writing up my MA thesis, I spent a lot of time in the British Library. It was still fairly new, maybe a year old, and it had some fantastic loos. Clean, sweet-smelling and always enough cubicles to go around. There were also individual handicapped loos for the able-bodied to escape to if necessary. I used the handicapped ones even when not strictly necessary, because I like a little privacy when it's on offer.

One time, I repaired to the handicapped ladies' loo on the 3rd floor -- no one ever used it much, nor the regular stalls. The 3rd floor housed the map room and a few minor collections, so it wasn't a high traffic area. I walked in, locked the door, and immediately my eye was drawn to two magazines poking out of the bin. On further inspection, they proved to be copies of Club and Mayfair. There was also a large wadded up bunch of loo roll. I was transfixed for a moment, but went about my business and left, washing my hands thoroughly.

It was about 10 minutes later that the penny dropped: had I been in the ladies' room? I went back and checked, and yes, I had.

what is with people flushing food down the toilet? is it really THAT bad? neil used to do that with his mom's food all the time. I'd never seen someone do that before

people do that? that's strange, why not just throw it in the garbage? When I lived in GA, I was shocked to see people had garbage disposals in their sinks. I had never seen one of those before it was the weirdest thing to me.

I thought the toilet thing was weird. I always told him to just throw it in the trash, but he it was the only place he could put it where she wouldn't know he didn't eat it

anything left goes into the mulch thing when I'm at home

I was quite surprised when I got back - that recycling is everywhere now. Used to be that you only had to separate the papers, now they want paper, plastic, tin cans, cooked and uncooked food.

I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in a "brown bin" before long :P
