I am about to marry a us citizen in July next year. we first decided to use fiance visa but we heard from a friend who used this type of visa for his wife and is now facing problem of adjusting status to permanent resident that it is not good option. he advised us to get married in Ghana and then apply for CR1/IR1. what do you think?

Why is your friend having issues AOS? (do they not meet requirements? There are many factors-)

Right now K-1s are processing much faster by a year or so then CR-1s. Who knows what the future will bring in Ghana for both types ....

Its your choice but no one has recieved a CR-1/IR-1 interview for almost 8 months.... and who knows what their wait will be once they get a date.

In general, CR1 visas are processed in almost the same amount of time as K1 visas. Do your homework and ask around to find out if this is also the case for people going through Ghana because it may differ, but then again, it may not. Like I said, for most countries, they take almost just as long. A CR1 is a much better visa because you'd receive your green card and Social Security card a few weeks after you enter the US without having to file for AOS. So keep asking around to find out how long it takes in your country, it actually may not be that bad of a wait.

Diana, if you look at timelines for Ghana right now. CR-1s are taking sooooo much longer. It has been over 4 months since any one had an interview and people approved in november/decemeber havent recieved dates. Interviews are being scheduled 6-7months out. So even if approved today they will be waitng a very long time for an interview. K-1s are moving in Ghana faster right now.... but thats today- who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Its that- or waiting almost 2 years (as it seems many will be) for a ghana interview.

Do you meet the income requirement- that would be the biggest hold up? If not you can get a co-sponsor and hopefully have things move smoothly. Talk to some of the people like lori or justUS who have been waiting a long time already for interviews with not much answer. They heard something this week- but no answer on when interviews will start again. And once they do who knows how far out they will be. Just my thoughts.
