I'm amazed by the utter logical fallacy of this article. It's not exactly straw-man since the person in question is real, but the fact that there exists a libertarian who can't explain his views and looks ignorant proves absolutely nothing about the underlying philosophy. Does anyone think there aren't any ignorant liberals that would look similarly ridiculous if asked to actually explain their ideology?

Additionally, while laughing at someone during a debate is great when you know everyone around except your opponent agrees with you and will laugh with you and perhaps make the other person feel sheepish, it really isn't a valid debate tactic and effectively precludes intelligent conversation. It's obvious that's what the author wished to do and it may be that the libertarian in question wouldn't have been able to provide much reasonable debate. It's a great story and I assume he was relaxing with friends and having a good time. But using the story as a launching platform for a political article is dubious and makes the whole piece difficult to take seriously.

Except a Libertarian will not say those words. A libertarian saves himself without having the government interfere. Freedom is a difficult concept for a lot of people to handle. I do not depend on the market to save me. I save myself. I do not depend on Freddie Mac or Fannie May, whoever they are and whatever relationship they may have to the government. I pay for my house.

Why is it that people who really hate freedom and independence have to invent Libertarian "positions" and then argue against them? I really am not going to involve myself with such nonsense. Argue with my positions if you will, but I will not argue with you over what you THINK my positions are, or what you SAY my positions are.

I am Pro-Choice...on everything.
